Christmas Music season has officially started. Stations like WRRM 98 and WLQT 99.9 are two stations in full gear playing Christmas music 24/7. WRRM 98 started playing Christmas music all day every day, a week before Thanksgiving. WLQT 99.9 started playing Christmas music full time starting on Thanksgiving. With four-hundred radio stations playing Christmas music in the United States, everyone is in a holiday spirit ready for Santa to come down the chimney.
Opinions about when Christmas music should start range from after Thanksgiving to never at all. Senior, Haley Fallon thinks right after Thanksgiving is a good time to start pulling out the seasonal tunes.
“If you start playing music too early then I just get tired of listening to it and it takes away from the greatness of Thanksgiving,” states Fallon. The music gets her into spirit and helps her think about the break. Christmas music is a major stress relief for Fallon.
“I do not listen to Christmas music ever,” states sophomore Rachel Strull. “It is just really boring, and does not sound good.” Instead of Christmas music Strull listens to rock, techno, and alternative all year round.
Another student of Mariemont High School who only listens to Christmas music two days before the big day is freshman, Danny Renner.
“I listen to Christmas music when I go to my grandmother’s house for Christmas. She always has Christmas music on, so it is a necessity every year,” states Renner. He still likes the music, though, because it gets him into the Christmas mood.
“Christmas music should start December 1st every year because if it’s before then, Thanksgiving is overlooked,” states sophomore Brenna Biggs. “I love Christmas music, but it has to start after Thanksgiving, also the music makes me feel more in the spirit of Christmas.”
