On Homecoming Friday, October 6th, the Warpath staff had the opportunity to sit down with a member of Mariemont High School’s Class of 1960, writer and artist Gayle Gleckler. As a high school student, Gleckler was a member of the Pep Club, the Vice-President of her class, and the editor of the Warpath. After MHS, she attended the University of Florida, receiving her degree as a Bachelor of Design. After Florida, Gleckler decided to immerse herself into the world of advertising.

In advertising, Gayle created ad campaigns for the hair company Clairol, coming up with the catchphrase, “I’m gonna wash that gray right out of my hair” in the 1980’s.

Aside from advertising, Gleckler co-wrote the film “Lord of the Flatbush” in 1974, featuring Sylvester Stallone. The movie came two years before Stallone made his walk to fame as “Rocky” in 1976.

Today, Gayle and her husband Tony travel the world; when they return home to New York, they often use what they experienced abroad to create art pieces. When home, Gayle volunteers for Pegasus Therapeutic Riding and AdVets for WarVets Foundation.
