Float building could be the best week of the year for some students, for others, it’s the most boring time of the year. This year’s theme is apps, and due to the fact that the seniors win about every year, there are some conflicting views on whether it’s worth it or not.
Charles Schooler, a Mariemont freshman, thinks, “The float can be stressful but also really fun if you put the right amount of work in.” Some floats builders maybe haven’t put as much work in it as they could’ve in the past.
The seniors admit to their floats not always being the best in the past years but are striving to make this year better.
“Nah, our floats haven’t been the greatest in the past years, but this years is different.” senior Cole Stewart says.
While many probably find float building to be a fun festivity, Sophomore Noah Dill says this about his float being so close to taking down the repeating senior class: “We were around 2 points off from winning. It wasn’t fair. The judging its definitely weighted towards the seniors. They always win,” said Dill.
There have been stories about the scores being messed with in the seniors favor and some people heavily believe in this, some may think its just an old lie, while some probably just don’t care, but past judger, Mrs. Gilmore, has some information on this.
“There was not anyone who asked me to vote in a certain way. I filled out a score sheet, and then turned it in. I never saw a tally of other judge’s scores. Only mine,” said Gilmore.
This could sway some students’ thoughts on the idea of the seniors being helped no matter if their float is good or bad. We might never know if the points are actually messed with, but this year’s float building might add to the dilemma. If the seniors win, the stories of scores being tampered with is still there, but if a different class does, it might be a whole new ballgame.
