Who are these People?

Junior Daniel Simons, varsity baseball pitcher and playboy, enjoys following the Cincinnati Reds daily.

Moreton is a Senior at Mariemont and is an avid Reds fan. Maybe the biggest in the school.

Jacobs is a freshmen at Mariemont. He plays baseball as well as basketball.

Mr. Nerl is the Athletic Director at Mariemont High School and a passionate Reds fan.

This column will explain how the statistics rate the Reds postseason chances.

Will the Reds make it to the Postseason?

What is your prediction.

Yes, Simons believes in the Reds chances this postseason. He also says that the Reds need production from Votto and Phillips, and says Sean Marshall will play a key role down the stretch.

Yes. Claiming, “I am very optimistic.”

Yes, Jacobs has faith in the Reds holding on near the end of the regular season.

Yes, Mr. Nerl thinks that the Reds will get in by the skin of their teeth, taking the last Wild Card spot.

If somebody were able to ask numbers what they think, numbers would reply with “close but no cigar.” On paper the Reds are better than 80% of teams they play, so they will make it to the postseason, but not good enough to win the division.

Do you think the Reds will succeed  this Postseason?

“Yes. My guess is the 1st wild card spot. (Which gives the Reds home field advantage). I also believe that the Reds can beat the Braves in the NLDS,” said Simons.

“I think the Reds are starting to peak at the right time” Moreton says. Also, it is good to have Ludwick back.

Jacobs thinks that the Reds are capable of being a World Series contender, but only if Joey Votto becomes an MVP again.

In short, Mr.Nerl does not think they will succeed this postseason. He explains that they are too inconsistent to win.

The Reds will have to out-produce their regular season numbers. But they do sport the 6th best Slugging % in the NL, and 4th best ERA.

Do you think the Reds will fail this Postseason?

He thinks that the Reds will fail due to their lack of consistent offense.

“I try to ignore those thoughts as much as possible”

With no reason to hate the Reds, Jacobs feels that the biggest downfall is pitching.

For Mr. Nerl, hitting is the Reds weak spot, and that is also their downfall.

One main reason. Road pitching. The Reds pitchers combine for 48-26 record at home. While they are 36-39 on the road.

How far in the Postseason will the Reds make it?

Simons has faith in the Reds, but not enough to say they can make it to the world series. This is where Simons draws the line, they lose in the NLCS.

Moreton believes the Reds will make it to the division series. “After that,” she says, “I hope I am happily surprised.”

If Jacobs had to guess, he would say the NLDS.

Either Mr. Nerl does not like the Reds, or he can just see the truth. He predicts, 1st round loss.

The Reds pitching has not been up to par on the road this season. If the season ended today, they would be on the road in Pittsburgh. Where they will lose in the Wild Card game.
