Who is the most followed person on Twitter? Believe it or not, that title belongs to Lady Gaga. Twitter was created in 2006. Twitter has over 175 million users. It is a social networking site, where each user makes a profile. From there you can follow people, similar to becoming someone’s Facebook friend. As a user, you can “tweet” anything you want. You can also upload pictures and videos.

     Twitter accounts are unique that many famous people have them. Many celebrities, whether they be singers, athletes, actors/actresses, etc. have an account. Twitter gives fans a chance to interact with them, and connect with them. Even President Obama has a twitter.

     Twitter is not only used socially. It is now being used on business platforms and political campaigns. Businesses and politicians have their own accounts to get people talking about them. They want as much publicity as possible, so having a Twitter account is a great idea.

     Twitter has recently caught on in MHS. More and more people are logging onto Twitter every day. In a recent informal poll in my first bell a little less than half the class had an account. Twitter is convenient, quick, and easy to use.

      Senior Emily Mehl (@EmilyBMehl) said, “Twitter has become somewhat of a language.  If something funny, cool, or interesting happens, people immediately need to ‘tweet’ about it.”

     People use it to quickly update what they are doing, or what they are talking about. There is a 140 character limit on tweets, so they are meant to be kept short. Most tweets are short phrases updating what they are doing, their opinion on something, or something funny.  

      Senior Davis Mendenhall (@Flocka_koozie) said, “I like twitter because I like to share my twitpics with everyone, and it boosts my confidence when people follow me.”

      Facebook better watch its back, ‘cause Twitter is catching up quick.
