Experience will be a big help to the Warriors men’s basketball team this year. They return five contributors from last year’s team, four of them returning as starters. Seven seniors will be playing consistent minutes.

     Chip Stewart says, “Experience is always a good thing to have, along with senior leadership. With our seven seniors, I think we have both.”

     Not many teams can say they will have so many experienced seniors. 

     Jake Griffin returns from a year off the court, and David McCormack will be playing his first year for Mariemont after transferring from Saint Xavier last year. They will control the ball, and use their speed to run the floor. Both will split time at the point guard position.

     The shooter will be Stewart. His quick trigger from deep devastates defenses. Chip returns as a starter from last season, and received all 2^nd team CHL. He led the CHL last year in 3-pointers made. If he is left open, you can take it to the bank.

     Taylor Sizer returns as a starter and an all 1^st team CHL selection last season. Sizer has a knack for being around the ball, leading the CHL in steals last season. He finds ways to get the ball in the basket, whether it be on the fast break, or put backs.

     Sizer said, “It will be important to play together as a team. We will rely on our chemistry, and strong finish to the end of the season last year.”

     The post will be held down by returning starters Job Jennings and Drew Hyer, as well as Christian Lehman contributing off the bench. Hyer says, “To be successful we are going to have to practice hard every day and take no one lightly.”

     Job received honorable mention in the CHL last season, and was 2^nd in blocks. Job said he has prepared for the season by, “going 120% every conditioning and practice.” It will be crucial for these three seniors to control the paint, and pull down rebounds.

     Junior Max Long will also be ready to come off the bench as a sharp shooter.

     Many Warrior supporters have been waiting years for this season. The Warriors are not shying away from expectations. They are confident that they can beat anyone if they play together.

     Stewart says, “I’m excited about the season. We have a lot of talented players and should compete for Mariemont’s first CHL title in basketball since 1998.”
