High school is often seen as the prime place for rumors to hatch, fester and spread. Usually, rumors are here and gone within a week. However, every now and then a rumor takes root and grows into something more permanent: a myth.

Mythology surrounds Mariemont traditions, but never before has there been anyone to separate truth from rumor. Warpath has taken this initiative and busted four of Mariemont’s most mysterious myths.

Myth: Haunted bathrooms by the library

You might think all of the school bathrooms have something spiritual happening due to the fact that they all have climates drastically different from the rest of the building. However, that is normal compared to the paranormal activity in the girl’s bathroom by the library. “Lights have gone out, there are weird noises, and there are those holes in the ceiling that make you feel like you’re being watched,” says Mrs. Colpi.

Myth or fact? FACT- To get to the bottom of this myth, fellow investigative journalist Katie Tassos and I decided to preform “Bloody Mary” in front of the mirror with the lights off in this allegedly haunted bathroom. After completing this, we both agreed on feeling “spooked” and will never be in that bathroom with the lights off again.
Myth: Kuhn can sing

This is a myth that has credibility in its age. According to Mr. Kuhn, this is a myth that has been around since 1998. The story is Mr. Kuhn secretly has one of the most angelic singing voices ever heard. “I think it’s really interesting and funny how it keeps coming around. It never goes away” says Kuhn.

Myth or fact? UNDECIDED- “Well, everyone can sing. The question is can I sing well? That I can’t answer. It’s just in the ears of the beholder,” says Kuhn.

Myth: Freshman and the Make Out Hallway

Of the many tales that are told about the infamous Make Out Hallway, a recent one involving freshman has been circulating around the student body. Sydney Huber, victim of this rumor,

explains that she was led to believe every freshman was required to make out with an upperclassman in the Make Out Hallway before her freshman year was over. “I believed it because I remembered hearing stories about the Make out Hallway and upperclassmen told me it was true so I believed them,” says Huber.

Myth or fact? MYTH- Huber confirms the rumor did not end up being true. Junior Courtney Dunning, a witness of Huber’s incident, explains “A myth has never been the motivation behind any happenings in the Make Out Hallway.”

Myth: Radloff is a Robot

Started by Mrs. Leatherwood, the myth that Mr. Radloff is a robot began as an explanation for how he balances a life of high school teaching and 5 kids. Later on, alumni Addie Shelley and Steve Hassey further investigated this myth. “We concluded that he was an advanced robot with the capability for emotion because of the insane supply of batteries in his room, his amount of sleep being equivalent to the time it takes a computer to charge, and the speed at which he grades exams,” says Hassey.

Myth or fact? MYTH (MAYBE)- “I am not a robot. Sorry. I just like to get things graded and back quickly,” says Radloff.
