Red: Although red is traditionally a fall color, it can be adapted for winter easily. Choose darker reds, more cherry than stop sign. If you are a blonde, stay away from red. Leave it to those with darker coloring. Keeping it classy is also key: if it’s red, it cannot be both tight and short. Please pick one so you don’t give the wrong impression…

Bold necklaces: I love big jewelry. It can take a boring outfit/dress and turn it into a compliment magnet. Although big jewels usually mean big bucks, costume jewelry is the perfect solution. No one can tell the difference and they look very expensive (always a plus). Big jewelry can be worn by all, as long as the dress is on the simpler side.

Military: a military style dress is the perfect hybrid between girl and boy styles. But remember, just because something is camo does not make it military… or cute, for that matter. Military styles are usually dark in color and have buckles or some other type of hardware. Rivets and zippers are great, in moderation. If there are so many zippers you can’t tell which one actually opens the dress, you have a problem. If you are intense and hardcore in real life, a military dress is perfect for you.

Fringe: Fringe is fun. Whether it is a little bit or a lot, it doesn’t matter. It looks cool when you move, and most people don’t wear it that much, so you will look special. I like fringe along the neckline, along the hemline or just plain all over the dress. To avoid looking like a Native American, stay away from Earth tones. Purples, blues, reds, black and white are all great. To make sure people don’t think you were mauled by a bear on the way to snowball, make sure the fringe is not too thick or too ragged. Fringe says you are in for a good time, so if that is you, go fringe.

Stilettos: I’ll start out with this: you are only allowed to wear stilettos if you are a master at walking in heels. No matter how cute your shoes are, if you are walking around like a newborn horse trying to take its first steps, no one will notice the shoes. They will be too busy laughing at you. However, if you have conquered the art of walking in heels, stilettos are awesome.  There are tons of cute options, so learn how to walk in heels, and then go crazy.

Chunky heels: Chunky heels are the perfect solution for the girl who is either scared to try on toothpick-thin heels, or is just really bad at walking in them.  Chunky heels provide more support and are easier to walk in. To avoid looking like a mom, choose chunky heels with a cool pattern or a bright color.

Combination of colors: Mixing and matching is great. Putting more than one color into your dance outfit will make you look interesting and guarantee that you won’t blend into the crowd of same color dress/shoe combinations. However, colors that can NEVER be mixed are, among others: black and navy, pink and red, and orange and brown.

LBD: I love little black dresses (LBDs). The plus for buying one of these for snowball is that it can be worn for a multitude of events after the dance is over. There are countless opportunities to wear a dress, and as long as it’s cute and not boring, the LDB is the perfect solution for them all.

Asymmetrical: An asymmetrical dress is an interesting, kind of funky option if you don’t want to wear a traditional dress. Since the cuts of these dresses are usually loud and crazy, a more subtle color is a good choice.
