When asked if she enjoyed her spring break college tour, junior Grace Gardner simply replied, “No. Definitely not.”

     Gardner is one of many students who give up their precious week off of school to spend days traipsing around college campuses with their parents. Many are not happy about it.

     But despite this fact, there are the lucky few who enjoy college visits. Or at least have an interesting story to tell when they return.

     Junior Kate Hassey visited Tulane University and found herself on the set of a currently-being-filmed Miley Cyrus movie.

     “My mom and I snuck onto the set of the movie and ended up being asked to be extras in the shoot. I’m not sure what the movie is called, but I’m really excited to see it when it comes out.”

     Although Hassey liked Tulane anyway, she says being on the set of a movie definitely made the visit stand out among the others.

     Junior Mackenzie Shelley also had a celebrity run-in while on a college tour. During spring break, while on the leg of her college tour that involved a visit to New York City to see Columbia University and Princeton University, located nearby in Princeton, New Jersey,  Shelley, a lifelong Harry Potter fan, ran into none other than Daniel Radcliffe, who, as many may know, plays Harry in the movie adaptations of the books.

     “He said ‘How are you doing’ and shook my hand,” Shelley says.  “It was one of the highlights of my life.”

     Although not everyone is lucky enough to have as exciting and star-stuck moments such as these on everyday college tours, Hassey recommends a way to make them more exciting:

     “I try to picture myself actually living at the school, like eating in the dining hall and living in the dorm and it makes the whole tour much more engaging and I think I get a better feel for if I like the school.”
