     When Jon Saxton drove into the senior lot on the first day of school, he expected to be able to easily locate his assigned parking spot. Instead, he found himself attempting to decipher what were once numbers on the blacktop. Incoming seniors like Saxton, frustrated with the worn-down paint, have gotten creative with colored duct tape instead.

     “You can’t see the numbers on the spots at all,” says Saxton, “So I marked my spot with a large, neon-orange triangle because it’s bright and noticeable.”

     Saxton says he was the first person to mark his territory in this fashion this school year, but he got the idea from former seniors Tim Purcell and Conor Coyan, who used this same method last year.

     However, Vice Principal Tom Crosby says this is the first year the fading numbers have been a real problem. “The teacher lot has the same issue, so we know firsthand that this needs to be fixed.”

     According to Mr. Crosby, the lot was last painted five years ago. School staff are looking into having this improvement made, but since “the maintenance crew has been working on the press box [at Kusel Stadium], repainting the lot has been put on the back burner,” says Crosby.

      Both Saxton and Crosby point out the irony in the fact that the sophomore lot is, as the latter put it, “pristine.” Saxton says, “the Senior lot gets used more, because it’s where people park for games [at Kusel Stadium], so why isn’t it repaved?”

     Mr. Crosby later informed the Warpath that plans had been put in place to repaint the lot. It was repainted on September 14.

      However, both Saxton and Crosby acknowledge the bright side of the dim numbers: in response to the creative taping going on to help students find where their cars go, Crosby says, “I think it’s pretty creative, actually.”
