Homecoming is stressful. The dress, the date, the dinner group, the transportation– it’s easy to freak out over it all. But don’t fear, confused underclassmen. We seniors have finally mastered the Homecoming Dilemma. We know the best places to get a fantastic HC outfit, how to avoid stabbing our dates with boutonnière pins, and the best locations for a super-fun pre-Homecoming dinner. And we’ve decided to impart our knowledge on you all. I’ve compiled a list of the greatest, fail-safe restaurants that are always a hit. Below, you can read a brief review along with average prices, distance from school (to help you avoid the racing-to-the-dance-before-9:30 disaster), and some basic contact information. Benihana
The hike downtown to Benihana is well worth it; this Japanese grill will amaze you. Groups gather around a table/grill and watch as a chef prepares the meal right before your eyes. All at once enthralling and delicious, Benihana can’t be beat. It’s pricey and slightly out of the way, but nonetheless those who have been praise it for its unique style. “There’s entertainment while you eat!” explains Bryan Routt. A guaranteed good time for dinner groups large and small.

Buca di Beppo
This classic Italian eatery boasts big portions and delicious dining. The friendly atmosphere is perfect for a laid back yet festive gathering, making it ideal for a Homecoming dinner. The staff is used to working with large groups, so they’re extremely accommodating if your dinner group is big. And as for the food…”It is so good,” says Bryan Routt, “and you can eat it for like a week. There’s so much food.” The family style portions, as Routt mentions, guarantee some yummy leftovers.

Padrino
This Old Milford restaurant is yet another place for tasty Italian eats. Small and affordable, this restaurant has a cozier feel than loud and crazy Buca. “It’s nice but relaxed,” says Jon Saxton of the warm atmosphere. This locale is best for smaller dinner groups looking for a pleasant, light, Italian meal. Though it boasts “the city’s best pizza,” Padrino serves all of the quintessential Italian staples: lasagna, chicken Parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs. The garlic knots also can’t be missed. An order includes four, making it a great appetizer for a small dinner group.

PF Chang’s
Everybody loves Chinese food. And even if you don’t, you’ll find something at PF Chang’s that you will enjoy. With its huge menu and endless options, this restaurant is sure to be a hit with any Homecoming dinner group. On the casual side and relatively inexpensive, it’s perfect for those who want amazing food without the formal setting. If you’re in need of recommendations as you pore over the extensive menu, senior Alli Lynch has got you covered. “They have really good shrimp,” she advises seafood fans. “And I love the chocolate wall!” But if you want to get your hands on this famous dessert, don’t forget to make a reservation. PF Chang’s is generally quite crowded.

The Cheesecake Factory
The name says it all—this restaurant is home to some of the best cheesecake around. So if you and your dinner group are looking for mouthwatering desserts, this is the place for you. Before you enjoy a slice of cheesecake, though, try one of the many entrée options from the huge menu. These range from pastas to steak dinners to eighteen varieties of hamburgers, each as good as the next. This wide selection makes The Cheesecake Factory ideal for dinner groups with varying culinary preferences. It’s easy, local and has something for everyone. Sometimes there’s just nothing better than a home-cooked meal. If none of the restaurants mentioned here appeal to you
or you’re just too lazy to get it together and make a reservation, plan a dinner at home. A little decoration and willing parents can go a long way; some of the best dance dinners occur in a relaxed, at-home setting. “At-home dinners are the best,” says Mallory Widecan. “You can just chill out.” This set-up is best for underclassman that can’t provide their own transportation to and from restaurants.
