As The Warpath continues its College Spotlight series, application and scholarship deadlines move ever closer. Some students have already been accepted to several schools, while others are still struggling to fill out their Common Application by January 1st. Here, the Warpath sits down with three more seniors, each at different stages in this arduous process.

     Michael Weston-

Weston is keeping his options open as he applies to a half-dozen universities in his search for the perfect school where he can study engineering.

     Where are you applying?

Purdue University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan, Virginia Tech, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pennsylvania.

     What is your top choice and why?

My top choice out of the schools I’ve visited is Northwestern, but I don’t know if that’ll be my final choice after I visit others. I like that they’re on the quarter system, and they have a lot of classes to choose from so it’s not hard to be involved in two separate areas.

     Where are you in the process?

I’ve finished Purdue application and my CommonApp. I’m working on all the supplements now.

     What has been the most stressful/irritating part of the process?

Parental intervention during the application process.

     Any hints or tips about applying?

Don’t get behind, and do lots of background research before you put time into working on the applications.

     Blake Adams-

Adams has an interest in business, and wants to stay closer to home and study at a large public university with top-notch programs in this field. With his interests so clearly defined, Adams has been able to knock out his applications fairly quickly.

     Where are you applying?

Indiana University and Miami University.

     What is your top choice and why?

At this point, I’d say I’m still undecided.

     Where are you in the process?

I’m finished with both of the applications, and I’ve actually been accepted to Indiana.

     What has been the most stressful/irritating part of the process?

All the different essays. These schools require different types of essays, the scholarships have different essays… Trying to figure out which ones fit.

     Any hints or tips about applying?

Start in the summer. I started my CommonApp in the summer, and it helped a ton because you won’t have as much work when you get busy with schoolwork.

     Mallory Widecan-

Widecan has wanted to become a Bearcat her whole life, and plans on attending Cincinnati’s local university next fall. She has streamlined her application process to meet this desire.

     Where are you applying?

University of Cincinnati.

     Why is UC your choice?

I get in for free because my dad works there!

     Where are you in the process?

I’m just waiting for my acceptance letter.

     What has been the most stressful/irritating part of the process?

Making sure my transcript got sent in.

     Any hints or tips about applying?

Do it!
