Congratulations freshmen, you’ve made it through your first quarter of high school. You’ve met all you teachers, you’ve settled into your classes, and you finally can make it through the halls to get to your classes on time. So we’re all curious- how did you really survive? The Warpath sat down with four MHS freshmen to see how the class of 2015 made it through their first quarter of high school.
- Coming into high school, what were your thoughts on how high school was going to be different from junior high?
- What’s your hardest class so far?
- What do you think about the upperclassmen?
- What’s your favorite class/teacher so far?
- What is one thing you’re looking forward to in high school?
Daniel Simons:
1. It is definitely a bigger school than the tiny Junior High. I thought it would be kind of hard to find the classes.
2. My hardest class so far is World History. It was challenging at first, but I think that that was just the transition from Junior High to High School. But I have been improving.
3. I mean, they’re not hitting books out of my hand, so they’re good, I guess.
4. My favorite class and teacher so far are Latin with Mr. Ferry. His teaching style really helps me learn better. But there is nothing against other teachers or classes.
5. Being a senior.
Lauren Trester:
1. I thought it would be harder and a lot less fun than the junior high.
2. The hardest class I have is World History.
3. I think the upperclassmen are a lot of fun and are really great to talk to since they know a lot more about high school and life than I do.
4. My favorite teacher to talk to is Mrs. Briggs. She is really fun and she likes a lot of things I love to talk about like Bones.
5. Getting to know all of the upperclassmen more and to join a lot more clubs.
Nick Weston:
1. Coming into high school I was nervous about the homework and tests, because all of the people I talked to were saying it’s definitely a hard switch from Junior High to High School. I was also excited because of all the extra freedom you get at high school and the new environment.
2. So far my hardest class has been English I Honors. I usually pick up things pretty fast and don’t have to study too much for tests and quizzes, but things definitely changed this year and it was a big wake up call.
3. So far all of the upperclassmen seem pretty cool and fun to be around!
4. My favorite class would definitely be Geometry with Mrs. Keefe. She just makes the class fun and it’s one of my easier classes, too.
5. Driving! I can’t wait to get my temps and drive myself everywhere!
Claire Gilmore:
1. I thought that it might be a little scary, but I was also really excited because I heard so many good things about high school. I knew I had to work harder than I did in JH, since my grades would affect my college career.
2. Latin. I wasn’t prepared at all for Mr. Ferry’s test, and thought it would be an easy grade like in JH. Obviously, I was wrong. Plus all of the new vocabulary is very challenging.
3. I like the upperclassmen a lot. They all are really nice and helpful and accepting. Can’t wait to meet more of them!
4. I love History with Mr. Hanley. He makes class really fun and I enjoy history. He’s also one of my favorite teachers, because he lets us goof off, but he still can get us back on topic.
5. I am looking forward to meeting new people, and especially playing high school sports. I’ve heard so many good things about all the programs, and I’m excited to finally be apart of it!
