The eight sophomores who run this account, who for the sake of confidentiality will be reffered to by their team nicknames, are Chuck the Cheese, Coffee Black, The Rampage, The Colonel, Klitschko, Big Irish, Sack Lunch, and Dale, but that last one isn’t permanent. These men take great pride in their twitter account, claiming:
This twitter account has 152 Mariemont followers, a must-follow for everyone in the high school. Their tweets range from updates on their games,
shout outs to their favorite Senior girls,
and sometimes they even give advice,
Despite being known best for their tweets, this is still actually a recreational basketball team, playing games every weekend at the Mason Rec Center.
SPOD, of course, stands for “Semi Pro Or Die.”
The team first came together the Summer before freshmen year according to Chuck the Cheese.
“The guys decided they didn’t want to play for the school and they all wanted to be on the same rec team.”
The team was met with instant success, finding themselves caught up in the world of sponsorships.
These boys are led by their Junior coach, and role model, Erik Flynn.
It’s not always fun and games, though. The team has gone through some real tough times as well.
When asked about his suspension, Coffee Black was curt and dead serious.
“Erik has a special woman in his life, I was simply trying to win her over,” explains The Colonel. “Erik didn’t take this well and suspended me. I do not regret the decisions that were made, and with much fan support, the suspension was lifted.”
At the end of the day, however, the Semi Pro rec team is sitting on a 5-1 record, the best they’ve ever had.
“Let’s just say we’ll need to change our name to All Pro soon” hopes Chuck the Cheese. The team continues to play, and are always keeping us updated on what’s next.
