This Friday night, thousands of eyes will watch fourteen high school students walk fifty yards across the football field.  Why?These are the elite few of Mariemont High School; the student-elected Homecoming Court.

In order to better understand why and how the nominees achieved their positions and what they will do with them, Neal Stehling, senior king nominee, offered some insight about why he was nominated.

“I am really funny, and I got my braces off,” was Stehling’s claim to fame.  It seems the pressure of the job has already gotten to him, though.  He explains, “Now when I see a girl, I blush and get really nervous.  It’s very uncharacteristic of me.”

On the other hand, freshman Lauren Getgey, found her key to nomination was kindness.

“You have to be kind to everyone.  It’s about doing nice little things for everyone.”  Getgy then guessed that, as a member of the Court, her duties might be to continue her kindness.

Similarly, freshman Will Hobart believes that the Court should be role models.

“It’s a good Court, they’re all nice people.  There’s nobody in particular that can fill those roles, except for Neal Stehling,” says Hobart.

Junior Carter Kemper says “I was expecting Jacob [Davis] the whole time since he’s one of the most popular kids in school.  I think he definitely can bring home the ring,” said junior Carter Kemper.  Davis, or King Davis I as he likes to be called these days, offers a different view on homecoming.

“Truly, I am happy, but I want to remain humble.”  Davis, however, could not think of any responsibilities he may have to take on.  The biggest decision for him will be whether to bring a date to the dance.  Davis, a linebacker for the Warriors, is excited, but knows without a doubt that this will not affect how he plays in this Friday’s game.

Mike Hanley, Student Council adviser in charge of Homecoming festivities, revealed the truth on the homecoming court.  “The homecoming court’s job is to make sure they represent their class well during the halftime ceremony.  I just ask them to be on time, smile, and dress nicely.  And don’t do anything stupid during the ceremony.”

It seems the responsibilities of the Homecoming Court include a wide array of duties, ranging from being a role model to being funny, kind, and not having braces.

“This is a funny time of year,” Stehling states
