Installed in the middle of August, the Collaboration Café is the newest  addition to the school’s library.

The Café utilizes the previously unused area to the right of the library entrance. It is an area dedicated to group study and cooperation, between students as well as students and teachers.  According to the school librarian Mrs. Colpi and library aide Mrs. Morris, the space is to be used to collaborate with fellow classmates and teachers in a welcoming and comfortable environment. Students flock to the Café throughout the day, either to be with friends or study with classmates.

“The intent of the Café is to encourage teachers and students to come together to share information and work in small groups,” says Mrs. Morris.

“We want to promote students’ skills of collaboration in projects, discussions and problem solving,” says Morris.

The Collaboration Café utilizes small booths and T.V.-sized computer screens to encourage the students to share ideas and projects with their classmates.

“It’s usually quieter over there because people don’t have to shout across tables to be heard,” says Colpi.

Students and teachers state their opinions on the installment.

“I have not used it yet, but I would love to as a class, for collaborative projects,” says Cheryl Toepfer, an English teacher.

“I haven’t used it yet, but it looks interesting,” says senior Shawn Bristow.

“The seats look really comfy,” says Bristow.

“We would like to thank the Mariemont School Foundation, the Johnson Foundation, and the Board of Education for funding this project,” says Copli.
