“All girls have to do is throw on boots, leggings, and a sweater about 50 sizes too big and they are good to go,” said sophomore Brooke Kelly.
Girls also adapt fashion to their personal style
“You can never go wrong with a statement necklace or an infinity scarf,” said junior Payton Coates. This style is simple, but elegant.
“I usually just rock a pair of Sperrys or some Vineyard Vines for the babes,” said Bortz on how male fashion tends to have a more specific point.
Girls on the other hand are relying on one another to stay up with the current trends and to stay fashionable. According to Statistic Brain, girls get 81% of the fashion sense from their peers, and 80% of the US teen girl population also consider shopping one of their personal hobbies.
“I consider myself to be an inspiration, fashion-wise for all Mariemont students,” said sophomore Natalie Utt.
According to Utt this year’s big trends involve vests, oversized sweaters, Patagonia jackets, yoga pants, UGG boots, riding boots, rain boots, scarves, and monograms. These things must be worn in a specific manner.
“On Wednesday we wear pink,” said sophomore Audrey York, referencing the movie Mean Girls.
Some of the males of the school often believe rationality is sacrificed for the goal of being fashionable: rain boots when it is sunny and 70 degrees out, and vests that don’t seem to provide any warmth.
