There has been an outburst in clown sightings, attacks, and threats. I talked to a few people to try to get to the bottom of why this was happening.
Clowns have been around for thousands of years. Jesters which are practically clowns, have performed in China since 1818 B.C. A clown is an artist or performer who pretends to be a fool or foolish and acts out or acts up, in order to amuse his audience. Clowns are supposed to be happy and silly, not scary. Recently, there have been multiple clown sightings and attacks and not talking about seeing a clown at a little kids birthday party, talking about having a clown chase you from your car to your front door with a machete. Sound like a dream?
During this year’s Halloween celebrations, students were “discouraged” to dress as clowns. Josh McClorey says, “they are ruining Halloween, clowns job’s, and even some people’s lives. It has gotten way out of hand and we need to do something about it.”
When asked what he is going to do on Halloween this year he responded, “I’m going clownting all night baby.”
I asked what clownting meant and McClorey responded, “clownting is the act of clown hunting.”
McClorey added, “I think it is a good thing that you’re not allowed to dress like a clown for Halloween this year because having a bunch of clowns on the streets, not knowing which ones are going to stab you or ask you for candy would be very dangerous and scary.”
McClorey is one of many who believe we need to do something about these clowns.
Charlie Cowart, current sophomore at MHS, says, “I think if I saw a clown while I was driving I wouldn’t be scared, but if I were walking alone at night and saw one I would be scared for my life.”
After interviewing students I realized that most of them are not scared of the clowns.
Sophomore Wally Renie, on the other hand, is a bit nervous. He says he has done a fair amount of research about why these clowns are attacking people and if it is real or not.
Renie says, ” I’ve read the recent rise in clown activity is to create interest in a new film based on the book IT by Stephen King where. According to Renie, the novel is about “clowns roaming the streets and killing people.”
Some students believe this is happening because people are crazy and trying to start a new “trend”. When Maddy Kromer stated her thoughts on the clowns she said, ” I think they are creepy, ugly, scary and I hope they don’t come to Mariemont.”
Although she said she is scared of the clowns she also said, “if I came face to face with one and I had a bat, lets just say things wouldn’t be pretty.”
