As some students may know, there was a new device to enhance security installed at the front counter in the main office.
But that is not the only new thing about the office.
We have found ourselves a pair of new administrative assistants. Enter Jean-Marie Nelson and Dee Walter.
Walter and Nelson, both residents of the district, combine for five Mariemont alumni and current students.
So a question some students may be asking themselves is, “Why are there moms in the front office?”
“I took the job because my old job was a 40-minute drive and I just love the district” says Walter
From being a mom in the school district to being a staff member of it, Nelson and Walter know a fair amount of students in the building. One might think this could prove to be awkward, but according to Nelson, it only helps.
“Having been a mother, I can relate to students a lot more,” says Nelson. “It helps me see their point of view much better.”
Following the footsteps of former administrative assistants Jane Douthit and Jackie Meyer is no easy task, but according to Principal Dr. Jim Renner, they seem to be doing just fine.
“They’re doing a great job,” says Renner, “They’re really smart, helpful, and I have gotten nothing but positive feedback about them.”
In a Warpath article posted last year by Joey Kromer, Douthit talked about how a student once tried to bribe her with coffee in exchange for not writing her a tardy slip. When asked if she would take any bribes, Nelson said, “I would not accept any bribes, but we do like candy here.”
According to Dr. Renner, helping students and parents is a big portion of the job. Walter loves this part.
“A lot of my job is to help students with everyday problems like helping them track down their lost phone or keys” says Walter “I love this part because I can easily help, being a mother.”
