Second semester is the final push before school is over. But something that comes at this particular time of year is Senioritis. Senioritis is a term given to the “lazy illness” that affects seniors.
With this end of the year bug, it is hard for twelfth graders to not procrastinate when doing homework. MHS senior, Alex Utt, says, “For me, since I’ve been accepted to college for almost all of senior year, it’s hard for me to do work when I just want to be in college.”
Even though Utt has already been accepted into a college, he still needs to finish his last second semester full stride with academics, as do the rest of the seniors. Just because a college accepts you, doesn’t mean that they can’t take away your acceptance.
It may seem unfair, but colleges do this in order to see if they made any mistakes with their accepted students. If accepted students slack, they show that they may not be ready for success beyong high school.
The senior counselor, Mrs. Elfers, has some words of wisdom for seniors who feel that they have contracted the sickness. Mrs. Elfers says, “The seniors who are having trouble keeping up with their studies should realize how embarrassing it would be to have to explain why they slacked off at the end of the year to their college.”
Senior Government teacher, Mr. Wolfford has quite the keen eye for symptoms of Senioritis.
Mr. Wolfford states, “I’m not seeing any symtoms as of yet, but Spring Break, setting our clocks forward, and higher temperatures mark the successive path toward a Senioritis epidemic. ”
MHS senior, Andrew Fields, reflects on his symptoms of Senioritis and says, “My grades are in the dumps and I haven’t cared less about something in my entire life.”
Hannah Bruggeman, MHS twelfth grader, talked about the reason why she has Senioritis. Bruggeman said, “I’m already enrolled into the college of my choice, so the rest of the school year seems pointless.”
The only cure to this plague is one thing and one thing only, graduation.

I like this article because very often I will not want to go to school if it will not affect my grade.
