Boys Golf
The boys golf team has seen a strong start to their season under coach Denny Nead after coming up with clutch victories over a couple of big name Cincinnati schools. The varsity team consists of four seniors: Max Long, Nick Fries, Joe Rolander, and Blake Adams. The team also relies heavily on junior Oliver Mauk and freshman Will Grimmer.
The warriors are now ranked number three in Southwest Ohio in divisions two and three according to the Cincinnati.com coaches polls, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished at Mariemont in years. Max Long, who is the captain for the team, gives his input on the team’s results so far.
“I think we have one of the best teams (Mariemont has) had in a long time” Long says.
The warriors have two standout players in Long and freshman Will Grimmer. Grimmer currently holds the leading average score in the CHL with an average nine hole score of 37. This is two strokes ahead of anyone else in the league, putting him in a good position for the CHL Player of the Year award. Long comes in at third in the CHL averaging a 40.
The season looks bright for the team as they look to take the top spot in the CHL and perform strong at the end of year Sectionals.
Girls Golf
The girls’ golf team graduated no one from last year, and the players have another season of experience under their belts. Senior veterans Rachel Colaw, Sara Bernstein, and Carly Schweier head the group with juniors Amanda Martina, Megan Williams and freshman Micaela Duever. Schweier, a co-captain, says that she is proud of her team.
“In my opinion, my team has been doing really well” she explained.
Although the team has been steadily improving, Schweier says that an individual has been exceptional recently.
“One player that stands out is Amanda Martina,” Schweier explains. “Her average is getting lower and her shots are a lot better.”
The warriors field a full team for the first time in recent memory, and look at capitalize on their veteran experience this season.
