Every team has goals for the season. Whether it be to improve on last year’s record, score more points, or win one game. For the Lady Warriors basketball team, their goal is to defend a title.
Four-year varsity player Emma Griffith says, “The Ball Squad’s ultimate goal for this season is to go undefeated in the regular season and defend our CHL championship, which we shared with Madeira last year.”
The name “Ball Squad” was created by junior Julia Whittlesey and senior Emma Griffith as, “Something to get us pumped up.”
Rebekah Justice, a 6’4” Freshman will be a key addition to the Warriors’ goals this season.
Emma’s younger sister, Olivia Griffith states, “We’re expecting Rebekah to come in and do her thing to contribute to the ball squad. Having her, Meredith Garrison and Mariah Morrow in the paint this year will be an unstoppable combination.”
Last year with a league record of 12-2 and an overall record of 18-6, the team will have to improve in minor areas if they want to achieve the undefeated season they are playing for.
Coach Weilbacher says, “If we want to achieve these goals we’ll have to work hard in practice and games. The main things holding us back from all this are if people play for themselves and not the team.”
Weilbacher goes on to say, “We need everyone to be unselfish in order to help accomplish our goals this season.”
Motivated by their desire to crush Madeira, when asked if they can repeat Emma Griffith says “Yes, we’re winning the CHL again this year and we are not sharing the title with anyone. Ball Squad won’t disappoint this upcoming season!”
