The girls tennis team graduated four seniors last year, more than half their varsity team, as well as their longtime coach, Neil Turner. But you won’t see them complaining about it. The warriors are rising to the challenge of replacing their seniors with young talent this season, and look to be just as good as the previous year. Four year varsity player and senior captain Katie Peters feels that there has been no drop off from the previous season.
“The talent level on this year’s team definitely rivals the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons” she said. “We only have a couple of matches under our belts so far, but with a winning record, this remainder of the season seems promising.”
The Mariemont team has two seniors, Peters and Kate Hassey, along with juniors Caraline Zack, Sophie Erhardt, Jasmine Slavik, and Ali Molski. A new face to the team is freshman Haley Weston. Coach Bret France has taken over coaching responsibilities.
With the loss of four key players and a longtime head coach, it’s easy to write off the season as a rebuilding one. But the warriors are fighting on through their schedule as if the setback never happened.
