“Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh I dunno, I sing in the shower? Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I’ll hit somebody with my car. So sue me– no, don’t sue me. That is opposite the point I’m trying to make.” This is just one of the many hysterical quotes made by Michael Scott in the NBC show The Office.
As a fan of The Office I would like to say that Michael Scott (actor Steve Carell) has a direct link to my funny bone. Every single one of his “that’s what she said” jokes are truly memorable. But here lies the problem; all Steve Carell will be after the end of the 7th season is memorable.
Right after the 7th season of The Office, Steve Carell will be officially retiring his character Michael Scott. Earlier this year he talked to E! and announced, “When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”
To MHS senior, Will Degerberg, this decision is bad news. Degerberg says, “The show will probably be awful without him.”
Many wonder who will take Michael Scott’s spot as manager of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Out of all the characters to choose from the show, who do MHS students think will be the next to manage Dunder Mifflin?
Kelsie Rutherford, a senior, would like to see Dwight Schrute (actor Rainn Wilson) take over Dunder Mifflin. Rutherford wants this to happen because she says, “He’s really funny and dashingly good looking.”
Hans Hinebaugh, MHS freshman, wants Darrell (actor Craig Robinson) to run the office. Hinebaugh states, “Darrell’s the diversity and can controllably let everybody be an idiot.”
Emmet Saulnier, a sophomore, has a completely different opinion from the other students. Saulnier says, “I think that a new character would be brought in because Jim would be too normal and Dwight would fire everybody.”
No matter what the near future has in store for Steve Carell, few can say that his contributions to The Office have been minimal. Over six seasons, Carell has won a Golden Globe award and had been nominated for four Emmys. This shows how much Carell means to the show and how much the next manager of Dunder Mifflin will have to step up to the plate.
