As the warm weather breezes in, and the third quarter is coming to an end, students are trading in their umbrellas for sunscreen and getting ready for one of the most exciting weeks of the school year: Spring Break.
Several Spring Break destinations come to mind, but a few stand out more than others….Rosemary, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Myrtle Beach, and the Grand Canyon. Out of all these places, the most known is Rosemary, Florida.

Located about 13 hours away, Rosemary is a getaway for many of MHS students. About 25 students are going to Rosemary, a family-friendly, beach-front town located in the Florida Panhandle.
Sophomore Megan Lundeberg, an annual Rosemary-goer, said, “Rosemary is the go-to place to go to the beach and have fun with friends, and get away from the Nasty-Nati.” Lundeberg also adds how convenient Rosemary is because everything is in walking distance.
Junior Jacob Dougherty said, “I’m very excited to go since it’s my first my time. I’m going with friends. I think that will will be very fun.”
Another student “hotspot destination” is Cancun, Mexico. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, about 2,856 miles away from Cincinnati. Cancun is another beach town, known for its beautiful beaches, authentic restaurants and many resorts.
Senior Chloe Reavill is going on a senior trip with some of her friends and couldn’t be more ready to leave the cold. Reavill said, “I’m really excited! I haven’t been to Mexico since I was like seven, so it’ll be really cool and I can’t wait for the warm weather mainly.”
Cancun isn’t the only well-visited place to go in Mexico. Playa del Carmen is also a popular Spring Break destination. With there white sandy beaches with a relaxing pace. It’s a welcoming break from the busy life in Cincinnati. Also located on the Gulf of Mexico, Playa del Carmen is 42 miles south of Cancun.
Sophomore Luke Robinson has been to Mexico multiple times and is excited to be going back again. He said, “I’m most excited to experience the different culture, and have fun with friends and family.”
Back in the USA, the Grand Canyon is a popular place that a few students are visiting, including MHS’s two exchange students. The Grand Canyon is a giant red-rock gorge carved out by the Colorado River, creating amazing scenery and outdoor activities such as hiking, white water rafting, biking and ATV rides.
Junior German exchange student, Johann Schupp explained how he is, ”excited to experience new terrain and go out west.” Joining him is Maria Luz Sanchez, an exchange student from Argentina. She said she’s interested in all the exploring and hiking in the Grand Canyon.
Sanchez said, “The Grand Canyon is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I cannot wait to go and hangout with family and friends in the sun.”
The last hotspot for Spring Break is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. With their fun restaurants and beautiful beaches, Myrtle Beach makes the list as a hip spot to go to.
“It’s conveniently located about ten hours by car from Cincinnati and the local entertainment, unique beach goers and the lively night scene provides a memorable vacation,” said JP Normile, who went last year with the baseball team.
The baseball team and their coaches, Mr. Regruth and Mr. Hanley, are heading down south to spend a week in Myrtle. The team shares their excitement on the exciting “field trip.”
Spring Break is enjoyable almost anywhere you go, as sophomore Will Stutenroth said, “I’m just excited to get a vacation from school and maybe get a tan while I’m at it.”
