While Mariemont students may have thought the acting in the musical Annie was without flaw, there were quite a few mishaps, forgotten lines, and a practical joke or two going on behind the scenes.
“Mistakes are inevitable,” laughs senior Katie Peters who starred as Annie. “So yes, I messed up.”
However some actors are not quite as open about their slipups.
Junior Peter Laug, who starred as Daddy Warbucks, laughs and admits that he did make mistakes, but says “I’ll never tell what I messed up.”
During the course of a musical, there are many things that can go wrong. Among these, forgotten lines and lyrics are probably the most prevalent.
“I missed a music cue on Saturday night,” says Peters. “But I only missed a couple of beats and tried to cover it up as best I could.”
Junior Emma Welsh, who played Lily, shares that there was a point when Braxton Stricker, senior who played Rooster, forgot to come on stage and she had to say a few of his opening lines for him.
In addition to the typical errors that accompany a musical, the cast of Annie was able to throw in a few jokes during the course of their performances.
As the audience focused on the singing, the dancing, and the real live dog, the cast members were desperately trying to recall lines and dance steps and secretly suppressing their laughter.
